Ok so when were on vacation, we want to relax and enjoy ourselves. But I think it's also important to stay healthy. I think it's great to indulge and eat things that aren't the healthiest at times but not the whole time you are away. Anywhere you go, there will always be an option to have a healthy salad or some grilled protein with veggies but what we like to do is head to a local organic market and get some healthy snacks for the room. Every hotel room will have some sort of fridge you can put things in. This also saves money. Some things I like to have on hand are nuts, power bars, almond butter, and bananas. These are all things that don't have to be refrigerated obviously. Depending on where I am staying and how big the fridge is, I will also get hummus, veggies and some turkey meat. I love snacking on gluten free crackers as well. One of my all time favorite snacks however is chips. BBQ chips are my weakness but put a bag of Hawaiian Maui Onion chips in front of me and it will be gone in under 10 minutes. It's vacation, chips and ice cream are totally acceptable!!
I also like to keep up with some sort of workout routine. If I give up all together, I have a really hard time getting back into it when I get home. I have talked about this before but I like to bring DVD's to do in hotel rooms when I am working on location but when I am on vacation, I utilize the outdoors! Running on the beach, swimming or surfing are all great ways to stay active and in shape while away. Sometimes I will also do some crunches and squats on the beach. Get creative with this! There are so many fun outdoor workouts you can make up as you go.
My fiancé happens to be born and raised in Hawaii (sucks right?) He was on a surfboard before most kids could walk. He grew up in the ocean and happens to be an excellent surfer. What may surprise you is that he is also an incredible teacher! The first time he taught me to surf, I got up on the second try! If you have ever tried surfing, that is pretty impressive and its all because I had the best teacher! I love surfing. I am not very good at it yet but here is what I can tell you. IT IS A LOT OF WORK! Paddling out is hard (and a great arms workout), finding the right wave and then getting into it is hard, but once you are up, it is soooo worth it! There is nothing like it! In between though, I like to take little naps on my board:)
