EAT YOUR WAY TO CLEAR SKIN

Ok guys, this is a very sensitive topic for me, one in which I am extremely passionate about. I have heard so many Dermatologists say that what you eat has nothing to do with your breakouts or what your skin looks like. This is absolute bullshit!! What you put into your system absolutely, 100% shows on the outside. Let's dive into this a little deeper. Ever notice an older women who is and has been clearly a heavy smoker and drinker? Her skin is like leather, the texture is awful and she has so many wrinkles. She also almost has a yellowish, greenish tint to her skin tone. Now don't get me wrong, wrinkles are actually beautiful, I kind of see them as a roadmap of where you have been in your life. But the wrinkles on the face of a women who has lived a healthy life and taken care of herself are very different and much softer and more beautiful then one who has abused her body. 

I am someone who has suffered with acne since I was 20 years old. Strange that I never had hormonal acne growing up like a lot of teenagers do. For me it started at 20.  Stress and hormones played a huge factor.  The fact that I was working all the time and had layers and layers of makeup on didn't help either. Also the fact that I was treating my skin with "acne" products when I have sensitive skin which only dried my skin out more and caused it to produce more oil which made me break out even more. It was an endless, frustrating cycle and I couldn't figure out what to do.  Given what I do for a living,  it  made it even worse for me. Part of why I started this blog in the first place was because I wanted a place where I could share these things with you guys since I have literally tried every product out there in search of the right ones for my skin type and how to achieve that clear, glowing flawless skin.

Understanding what type of skin you have is the number one thing. For example,  if you are combination you need to make sure you are using products that are balancing the oil but not drying you out in the drier areas. Understanding makeup and ingredients is also a huge factor. For example some really great product lines have Talc in them. Talc will clog your pores and I happen to be allergic to it. Knowing what to stay away from and understanding what the ingredients are and what they do is super important. But here is the absolute number one thing : What are you feeding your skin with?  Discovering that I had a gluten allergy and that when I ate gluten my skin broke out was life changing. So there's a no brainer, no gluten  equals clear skin. It's not that simple though. sugar, shellfish, dairy and too many nuts will cause breakouts too. Processed foods and fried foods will do the same. Here's the thing,  if you follow me on social media then you know I am a foodie. I love to eat and I love to eat the bad food too. A lot of it. I have just learned how to balance it. It doesn't mean I never eat shellfish or drink or eat sweets, I do and I do it often but I balance it out with the clean foods that I know are not only nourishing my skin but also heal and fuel my body for better energy and overall health.

If you are serious about having clear, glowing skin, below are the Do's and Don'ts. Try it for a couple of weeks and let me know what happens! I can guarantee you if you follow this your skin will look amazing!!

DO:

Drink tons of water every day.  Aim for at least 2 litres.

Drink teas like Matcha, Green and Rooibos

Eat lots of greens. Salads, veggies etc

Eat fruits but only half at a time. You want a banana, awesome just eat half at one time as to not cause a spike in your blood sugar level.

Take a probiotic every day. Other supplements that are great are Zinc, Vitamin A and Chromium Picolinate 

Use face products that specifically say "non comedogenic"

ALWAYS WASH YOUR FACE BEFORE BED!! And be sure to change your pillowcase often.

Use a Clarisonic twice a week.

Use a gentle cleanser that won't strip your skin.

Use a retinol to help prevent wrinkles and keep your skin clear.

Do an at home peel once a week.

DON'T:

Eat Dairy, Shellfish or Processed Foods.

Eat more than a serving of nuts at a time which is normally about 15.

Eat gluten 

Drink any sodas 

Artificial flavor or refined sugars

Avoid high fructose corn syrup.

Touch your face with dirty hands.

Put your cellphone up to your cheek.
